As we get older the responsibilities increase, the more we have to do at work, home or for the family, the less time we have for ourselves. This affects the amount of exercise we do, which in turn affects our mental, physical and emotional health and well being.
Karate is an ideal sport for both men and women because it trains a person for self-defence while providing a full-body workout. It also serves to develop self-confidence and is an excellent form of stress release. Being an individual form of exercise, participants can work at their own pace, which is great for those who haven’t exercised in some time.

Shotokan karate is suitable for both men and women to acquire traditional karate skills combining self‐defence with a total body workout. Karate is an activity which develops both physical and mental abilities and is a great alternative to other sports. Karate is a unique form of fitness because it not only works every muscle and bone in the body; it also develops muscular endurance and strength.

Karate training is an excellent form of exercise which helps to prevent against cardiovascular disease, the most common cause of disease among middle-aged adults. Your heart is the most important muscle in your body and it is this organ that you start with to build up your levels of stamina and strength. General health is not solely about avoiding illness and disease; it is about living a life with more energy, vitality and enthusiasm.

Karate training has many stress reducing properties. Adults who make time for exercise have more control over their body and mind, and can eliminate stress much more effectively, than adults who remain sedentary all the time. In terms of stress reduction, karate is one of the best forms of exercise as it addresses the mind and body.

What to expect during your Beginner Class

Meet the instructor – You will be introduced to your instructors before you start and this will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have?
At the start of the class – Karate is done in barefoot, you will also need to remove any jewelry for safety reasons.

Warm Up and Stretch – the class will start with simple warm up and stretch, this prepares the body for the pyhisical demands of the class and it also improves flexibility and coordination. You will then be taught separately from the rest of the class, with your own instructor, to ensure you are taught at a comfortable pace.

Karate Training – Your training will consist of basic karate blocks, punched and kicks, simple fitness training and self defence. You may be taught on a one-to-one basis or with a small group of other beginners.
End off class – You will have the chance to speak to your instructor and this will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have?
