Sunday 7th July 2024 saw ESKA hold their annual Novice Kata & Kumite Competition. This event was the perfect opportunity for those with little or no previous competition experience to give competitive Karate a go. The event was a great success with over 70 entrants taking part, many for their first ever time. The competition was held at The Dojo Norwich. Well done to all those that entered.

GB Open International Karate Championships 2024 – Results
The 2024 GB Open International Karate Championships, held at the University of Sport & Fitness, Birmingham, on the 29th & 30th June was a great event. With over 70 clubs and associations in attendance it was a busy weekend of Kata & Kumite action.
Out of 50 clubs, our members helped the TSKUK secure an impressive 13th place, obtaining:
3 Gold, 4 Silver & 4 Bronze.
A huge well done to all of the ESKA members who attended with the TSKUK squad. We are immensely proud of each and every one of you.

Due to the content and length of this course, it is only open for Brown Belt or Above, Aged 12 Years+.
Sensei Iain Abernethy has been involved in martial arts since childhood. Iain holds the rank of 7th Dan with the British Combat Association (one of the world’s leading groups for close-quarter combat, self-protection and practical martial arts), the British Combat Karate Association, and the English Karate Federation.
One of the leading exponents of applied Karate, Iain has written several critically acclaimed books on the practical application of traditional martial arts. He is well known for his work on the pragmatic use of the techniques and concepts recorded in the traditional Kata. Iain’s seminars, books, DVDs and articles have proved very popular with those groups and individuals who wish to practise their arts as the pragmatic systems they were initially intended to be.
The 2024 TSKUK National Championships, held in Canvey Island, Essex, on 19th May 2024 was an outstanding event. With 160+ competitors from 7 clubs, the level of skill and sportsmanship was truly impressive.
The organisation was smooth, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone. The atmosphere was lively, with supporters adding to the day’s excitement.
Competitors demonstrated impressive technique and dedication, making each match and performance engaging. The judges and officials maintained fairness and professionalism throughout.
Overall, the 2024 TSKUK National Championships was a great success. Congratulations to all involved for making it so.

The categories in this competition will be separated based on belt colour, age, gender, and height (where appropriate), ensuring that competitors will compete against opponents of similar abilities, making the event as fair as possible. Kata events do not require any additional equipment beyond your Karate uniform and belt. Kumite categories require Hand Pads (Red or White) and Gumshields (any colour).

The event showcased a wide array of karate skills, with competitors from various age groups taking part in Kata and Kumite disciplines. Participants from beginners to seasoned black belts displayed exceptional precision and expertise, engaging the audience and judges.
Kata involved performers executing a series of moves in a fixed sequence, simulating defense and attack motions against imaginary foes, with judges evaluating based on technique, timing, and the demonstration of power and grace.
Kumite, the sparring element, added an exciting dynamic with athletes demonstrating their quickness, agility, and strategy in scoring points through controlled, accurate strikes.
Emphasizing the importance of safety and fair play, the matches were closely monitored to maintain a respectful and competitive environment. The high-energy battles and the display of martial arts skills made for an exhilarating spectacle for everyone present.
Beyond being a competitive event, the ESKA Kata and Kumite competition celebrated the club’s ethos of discipline, respect, and continual growth. The participation of over 100 individuals underscored the depth and variety of karate talent within the club.
