Syllabus Training for

Black T-Shirt Tiny Tigers

Minimum Grading Requirements

3 months training period and 20 lessons (5 of which must be junior / family karate classes)

Tiny Tigers Basic Moves

  1. Groin Block x 3 stepping forward in front stance / Turn
  2. Head Block x 3 stepping forward in front stance / Turn
  3. Outside Block x 3 stepping forward in front stance / Turn
  4. Front Punch Stomach Height x 3 stepping forward in front stance / Turn
  5. Reverse Punch Stomach Height x 3 stepping forward in front stance / Turn
  6. Front Kick x 3 stepping forward in front stance / Turn
  7. Side Thrust Kick x 3 stepping forward in horse stance / Turn / Repeat
  8. Side Snap Kick x 3 stepping forward in horse stance / Turn / Repeat

Tiny Tigers Break-Falls

  1. Front Break-Fall / Forward Roll & Standing Position x 2
  2. Back Break-Fall / Backward Roll & Standing Position x 2
  3. Rolling Forward Break-Fall & Standing Position x 2

Tiny Tigers Partner Work

Three step sparring (performed to count)

  1. Head Punch / Head Block / Counter Attack x 3
  2. Stomach Punch / Outside Block / Counter Attack x 3
  3. Foot Sweep x 2

Tiny Tigers Pad Work

  1. Double Punch x 10 on the spot in natural stance
  2. Front Kick x 10 each leg in front stance

Tiny Tigers Kihon Kata

Performed to count / no count – optional

Tiny Tigers Exercises

  1. Press-Up x 10
  2. Sit-Up & Wave x 10

Tiny Tigers Assessment Criteria

Please note that you must meet all the requirements within a section to be awarded that mark.

Distinction

  • Basic Moves

    I can:

    • Perform my basic moves by myself
    • Perform my basic moves correctly with good preparation, power, and concentration.
    • Turn to face a new direction in my front stance with speed and power and good focus.
    • Show good timing and balance in my moves so my arms and legs start and finish moving at the same time.
    • Complete my press-ups and sit-ups.
  • Break-Falls

    I can:

    • Perform my break-falls by myself.
    • Perform my rolling break-fall in a straight line in one single motion.
    • Perform my front break-fall with only my hands, elbows and toes touching the mat and my bellybutton in line with my starting line.
    • Perform my backwards break-fall with my bottom, then my back, then my hands touching the mat whilst keeping my chin tucked to my chest.
    • Keep my legs tucked to one side of my head as I swing them over to perform a backwards roll.
    • Make only one step up from my front break-fall to my forward roll.
    • Perform my rolls and break-falls correctly with good speed and concentration.
  • Partner Work

    I can:

    • Perform my three-step sparring with my partner independently.
    • Perform my punches and blocks safely and demonstrate good technique, speed, and power.
    • Show good focus and engagement with my partner.
    • Complete my punches and kicks to the pad with good speed, power, balance, and concentration.
    • Hold the pad correctly and maintain my strong posture while my partner punches and kicks the pad.
    • Confidently perform a foot-sweep with my partner safely and effectively.
  • Kihon Kata

    I can:

    • Perform Kihon Kata by myself.
    • Show lots of good techniques with good power, speed, and timing.
    • Show good focus and concentration.

Merit

  • Basic Moves

    I can:

    • Perform my basic moves by myself.
    • Perform my basic moves correctly with good preparation and power.
    • Make a strong front stance that I can continue to show as I perform my moves.
    • Turn to face a new direction in my front stance with speed and power.
    • Complete my press-ups and sit-ups.
  • Break-Falls

    I can:

    • Perform my rolls break-falls by myself.
    • Perform my break-falls and rolls with some examples of good technique. For example, my forward rolls and backwards rolls are in a straight line. For my rolling break-fall, I may be able to keep myself small and roll in a straight line. Only my hands, elbows, and toes are touching the mat and my bellybutton may be in line with my starting line for my front break-fall. For my backwards break-fall, I make sure my bottom, then my back, then my hands touching the mat whilst keeping my chin tucked to my chest. I may also be able to move from my front break-fall to forwards roll by only taking one step. For my backward rolls, I can keep my legs tucked to one side of my head as I swing them over.
  • Partner Work

    I can:

    • Perform my three-step sparring with my partner independently.
    • Perform my punches and blocks safely and demonstrate good technique when doing so.
    • Show some good focus and engagement with my partner.
    • Complete my punches and kicks to the pad with some speed and power.
    • Hold the pad correctly and show some strong posture while my partner punches and kicks the pad.
    • Perform a foot-sweep with my partner independently and safely.
  • Kihon Kata

    I can:

    • Complete Kihon Kata to count without any help.
    • Show good techniques with some power, speed, and timing.

    OR I can:

    • Perform Kihon Kata by myself.
    • Show some good techniques while I perform my Kata.

Credit

  • Basic Moves

    • Perform my basic moves and a front stance with some help.
    • I can turn in my front stance to face a new direction.
    • Complete my press-ups and sit-ups.
  • Break-Falls

    I can:

    • Perform my rolls and break-falls with some help.

    • Perform a foot-sweep with my partner safely with some help.
    • Complete my punches and kicks to the pad.
    • Hold the pad correctly while my partner punches and kicks the pad.
  • Kihon Kata

    I can:

    • Complete Kihon Kata to count with some help.
    • Show some good techniques while I perform my Kata.
